The HIV test that shut down California’s porn industry last week was apparently a false alarm: the unidentified actor who tested positive for the virus at a clinic in Florida turned up negative on subsequent tests. The Free Speech Coalition, a porn-industry trade organization, has given studios the green light to resume filming. Still, industry critics like the AIDS Healthcare Foundation say the episode illustrates some of the problems with self-regulation; they’re pushing for a ballot initiative that would open studios to Los Angeles city inspections and require them to use condoms in films.
