Pot Growers Cause Cali. Water Problems

Marijuana producers in California are causing problems in the drought-stricken state, as they have been illegally diverting water for thousands of plants. Marijuana requires a lot of water: an individual plant consumes five to 10 gallons of water. According to the state Department of Fish and Wildlife, outdoor marijuana cultivation in Mendocino County and Humboldt County has doubled since 2009. Marijuana growers say, however, that illegal growers are giving the industry a bad name.
