Just days before North Carolina passed a constitutional amendment to ban marriage for same sex couples, Vice President Joe Biden revealed he has no problem with gay marriage. Biden’s comments sparked questions about the President’s own views on gay marriage. Is he really against it? If not, why won’t he say so? Wednesday, following North Carolina’s controversial vote, the President scheduled an unexpected interview with ABC News during which he confirmed that his “evolving” gay marriage stance had finally evolved. “At a certain point I’ve just concluded that for me personally it is important for me to go ahead and affirm that I think same-sex couples should be able to get married,” the President said.

It didn’t take long for Obama’s opponents to react, the Republican National Committee accusing him of “playing politics,” and GOP presidential challenger Mitt Romney reaffirming his position that marriage should be limited to a man and a woman. As the president’s message sinks in, the list of questions continues to grow as to how this news will effect Obama’s chances at re-election.
