Elvis Presley’s ex-wife Priscilla and their daughter Lisa Marie on Wednesday attended a memorial marking the 35th anniversary of the death of the singer—the first time the two women have ever appeared at the annual Memphis gathering. Priscilla, who divorced the singer in 1973, said the candlelight vigil “is something Elvis would never, ever have believed could have taken place.” The Graceland vigil, which became an official event in 1980, is part of Elvis Week, the annual celebration of the singer’s life and career. Presley died on August 16, 1977, of a heart attack after battling prescription drug abuse.
