A 60-year-old auxiliary bishop resigned from the Catholic Church on Wednesday after telling the Los Angeles Archdiocese in December that he had secretly fathered two children. Gabino Zavala resigned under canonical law that allows bishops to retire before the age of 75 for medical reasons or other circumstances that make them unfit to hold their positions. His two teenage sons live out of state with their mother.
