Prince George will be logging some serious baby air miles this spring when William and Kate hope that he will be accompanying them on their first official tour of Australia and New Zealand.

A spokesperson said that it was currently 'anticipated' that Prince George would accompany his parents, but that a firm decision would be made in 'due course'.

The trip will last for most of April.

George will be just a few weeks younger than William was when as a baby he made his first trip to Australia. Aged 9 months, Prince William accompanied The Prince and Princess of Wales on their official tour of Australia and New Zealand in March/April 1983.

Although it will be Kate's first trip to Australia, William has been several times since. He last visited New Zealand in March 2011, shortly after the Christchurch earthquake. Previously, he visited in January 2010, when he represented The Queen at the opening of the Supreme Court building in Wellington, and also visited Auckland. The Duke visited privately in 2005 when he followed the British Lions' rugby tour.

He last visited Australia in March 2011 to visit flood-damaged areas of Queensland and Victoria. Previously, he visited Melbourne and Sydney in January 2010.
