According to prosecutors, Gov. Chris Christie was aware of his associates’ plans to shut down George Washington Bridge lands in an act of retribution against a local mayor for failing to support him. Such an accusation was made Monday during the opening statements for a trial against two former Christie officials who allegedly organized the lane closures and subsequent cover-up. Christie has repeatedly claimed he was unaware of any such plans, but now both prosecutors and defense attorneys have publicly stated that he did know.
