In addition to his gigs as bear hunter and Siberian ice fisher, Russian premiere Vladimir Putin is attempting to play the role of peacemaker. On Saturday, the Kremlin said in a statement that Putin "calls on the opposing sides to halt any military activities and sit down at the negotiating table.” Putin also supported Ukrainian president Petro Poroshenko's decision for a unilateral ceasefire. The peace-promoting gesture contrasted Putin's previous order Saturday to put troops in central Russia on "full combat alert.” That announcement was made just 13 hours after Poroshenko declared Ukraine's week-long ceasefire.
