Are we all clear on what the word "independence" means? On Monday, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree recognizing the "Republic of Crimea" as a "sovereign and independent country." The day before, the region voted to declare independence from Ukraine, then requested annexation by Russia. Not so fast, Kiev says. “Crimea was, is, and will be our territory,” said Defense Minister Ihor Tenyukh.
