Vladimir Putin on Tuesday said Russian military assistance to the Syrian regime is preventing the refugee crisis from being even worse. “If Russia had not supported Syria, the situation in this country would have been worse than in Libya, and the flood of refugees would have been even higher.” Putin said tanks and troops sent to Syria are fighting “terrorist aggression” and that teaming up with Bashar al-Assad represents the best chance to defeat ISIS.
