Move over, Georgia O’Keeffe. Intended to look like a traditional Qatari dhow boat, the design for the new Al-Wakrah sports stadium has gone viral for its resemblance to a vagina. The stadium, which is expected to be completed by 2018 and will hold 40,000 fans, is part of a $140 billion plan by the fossil fuel-rich nation of Qatar for the World Cup. As one Guardian columnist wrote, “With its shiny, pinkish tinge, its labia-like side appendages and its large opening in the middle, the supposedly innocent building…was just asking for trouble.”
