Rand Paul is seeing red: The Republican Senate nominee from Kentucky is angry after the Associated Press reported that he is working without a certificate from the American Board of Ophthalmology. In fact, Paul has actually started a rival certification group that has certified hundreds of doctors without the blessing of the American Board of Medical Specialties, which governs two dozen medical specialty boards. Paul calls the report an attack on his livelihood. He said he quit the ABO in the late '90s because of its exemption policy for older ophthalmologists. "I don't think that some people should recertify and others shouldn't," he said. "And I don't choose to give my money to a private group that discriminates”—though discrimination, of course, is something he thinks it should be legally allowed to do.
