Teddy Pendergrass passed away Wednesday after losing a year-long battle with colon cancer. The R&B singer of the '70s and '80s—his hits include "Close the Door," "Joy," and "It Should've Been You"—had a difficult time recovering from surgery, and died at 59 at Bryn Mawr Hospital outside of his hometown, Philadelphia. Pendergrass began his career as the lead singer of Harold Melvin & the Blue Notes, and although his career was rocky after a car accident left him paralyzed from the waist down in 1982, he still managed to be a five-time Grammy nominee, with 10 platinum albums in a row. The recording artist may have passed, but son Teddy Pendergrass II says, "He will live through his music."
