Recall Tarnishes Toyota's Reputation

Pile Up

Car maker calls back 1 million more vehicles.

Toyota has added 1 million cars to its massive recall, tarnishing its reputation, experts say, and causing its stock to drop for the fifth straight day in Tokyo. A pedal flaw, causing unintended acceleration, has been blamed as the problem. “People aren’t going to buy Toyotas, period. It doesn’t matter which model. What’s happened is sufficient to keep people out of the stores," one industry analyst told Bloomberg News. The Japanese auto maker has halted production of eight car models for the American market, including Camry and Corolla cars.
