According to numbers released Tuesday by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, the Obama administration deported a record number of illegal immigrants for the third consecutive year between October 2010 and September 2011. Illegal immigrants with criminal charges accounted for more than half of the 396,906 deportations, which have steadily increased since Obama took office. The number of immigrants coming into the U.S., however, has reportedly decreased in recent years, in part because of the recession. While civil activists have criticized Obama’s illegal immigrant enforcement, Republicans have asked for a greater crackdown.
