The Red Sox have traded pitcher Jon Lester to the Oakland Athletics, in a deal that will bring slugger Yoenis Cespedes to Boston. Lester, who has been the team’s ace for some time now, had been rumored as a trade candidate for a while now. He was even scratched from his start the other day. “I just don’t understand it,” said David Ortiz about Lester being up for sale. Red Sox Manager John Farrell once opposed a trade involving Lester—in 2007, for pitcher Johan Santana. Jonny Gomes will also go to Oakland as part of the deal.
