Rep. Darrell Issa Investigating Staff

Powerful Republican Rep. Darrell Issa said Monday that he’s investigating his spokesman, Kurt Bardella, for improperly sharing emails with a New York Times reporter. Issa, chairman of the Oversight and Government Reform Committee, said he will be asking his staff, including Bardella, about Bardella’s relationship with New York Times reporter Mark Leibovich. Leibovich, who is writing a book on Washington’s political culture, and sources told Politico that Bardella shared internal emails with Leibovich, a move that could cost Bardella his job. In earlier interviews, Issa said he was aware that his staff had been cooperating with Leibovich, but he did not know the extent of what was shared.
