More than 120 people were killed Monday in multiple attacks on the Syrian coastal cities of Jableh and Tartous—areas considered strongholds loyal to President Bashar al-Assad, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights. ISIS has already claimed responsibility for the attacks online, which reportedly targeted Assad’s supporters. Attacks are rare in the coastal government-controlled areas, which also host Russian military forces. Dozens were killed or wounded in at least five suicide attacks, including two car bombs, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said. State TV reported a car bomber and a suicide bomber on foot attacked a bus station in Tartous. Three rockets hit Jableh, landing at a bus station near the city’s borders. The Observatory said upward of 53 people were killed in Jableh; an additional 48 were felled in Tartous. An official statement claimed that 20 more people had also been killed.
