The Department of Justice and the Securities and Exchange Commission are investigating into Apple’s practice of slowing down older iPhones, according to Bloomberg. The respective agencies will see if the company “violated securities laws concerning its disclosures” about a particular software update that slowed down older models to make their batteries last longer. This comes after the company admitted to manually slowing down the performance of certain iPhones in a 2017 software update in order to extend battery life; and to not disclosing that feature to customers. Since then, Apple has said it will release another update to allow users to reverse the so-called “throttling” effect.
