Report: Facebook Cut References to Russia in Election Report

Facebook reportedly scrapped any references to Russia in its election report published in April, due to concerns from lawyers and policy staffers. According to The Wall Street Journal, some Facebook employees thought “the company’s understanding of Russian activity was too speculative.” Since then, The Daily Beast and others have reported on Russia’s attempts to spread propaganda on Facebook and other social-media platforms through the use of advertisements and events. The April report said “malicious actors” tried to influence Americans in the run-up to the election, but was not specific.
