Report: FBI Didn’t Inform U.S. Officials of Russian Hack Attempts

The FBI reportedly failed to inform American officials that their personal email accounts were the targets of Russian hackers. According to the Associated Press, the bureau knew of the attempted breaches by Fancy Bear, a Kremlin-connected hacking group, for at least a year. The AP conducted 80 interviews with Americans targeted by the cyberattack attempts, and only two of them said they were given a heads-up from the FBI. “You’ve got to tell your people. You’ve got to protect your people,” said Philip Reiner, a former National Security Council Official whom the AP notified of a 2015 hacking attempt.
