Fingerprint software used by the FBI and at least 18,000 other U.S. law-enforcement agencies reportedly contains computer code written by a Russian firm that has close ties to the Kremlin, BuzzFeed News reports. The revelation, which has created worries that hackers could be using the connection to gain backdoor access to information about millions of Americans, was uncovered when two whistleblowers leaked documents, BuzzFeed reports. The whistleblowers are reported to be former employees of a French company that inserted the Russian code into the fingerprint-analysis software.
