Report: Iranian Troops Aid Syria

Members of Iran’s elite Revolutionary Guard Corps confirmed that the Islamic Republic is sending commanders and soldiers to support dictator Bashar al-Assad’s regime in Syria, the first confirmation by Iran’s military of its role in the ongoing conflict. The relationship between the Iranian and Syrian security apparatuses is long-standing, and it has been suspected that Iran has played a role in propping up Assad’s regime over the course of the bloody 17-month Syrian uprising. “Today we are involved in fighting every aspect of a war, a military one in Syria and a cultural one as well,” said Iranian Gen. Salar Abnoush in a speech Monday.
