The Pentagon is considering canceling military contracts for a program that offers citizenship to foreign-born service members who lack legal immigration status, The Washington Post reports. The soldiers, many of whom were on a track toward U.S. citizenship, could be subject to deportation if the contracts are canceled. According to a memo reviewed by the Post, the Pentagon is also considering “enhanced screening” for an additional 4,100 troops, most of whom are naturalized citizens.
