Two high-ranking State Department officials, including the lead envoy to the U.N., announced Friday that they will leave their posts, Foreign Policy reported on Sunday. Tracey Ann Jacobson, 52, a career foreign service officer who served as acting director of the Bureau for International Organization Affairs, told her staff she plans to take early retirement in October. William Rivington Brownfield, the U.S. Assistant Secretary of State of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs, also told his department that he plans to step down by the end of next month. Several experienced career diplomats have left the department in the past few months. The announcements come just weeks before Trump is scheduled to speak for the first time in front of world leaders at the UN General Assembly.
