Researchers in California claim they have genetically engineered mosquitoes to create a malaria-resistant trait. Using a new technique called "gene editing," the researchers said the new trait will spread rapidly, guaranteeing that malaria could one day be eliminated. According to UNICEF, the mosquito-borne infectious disease kills several thousand children a day, mostly in sub-Saharan Africa.
