New England’s last same-sex marriage holdout is one step closer to allowing gay couples to marry. The Rhode Island House overwhelmingly passed a gay-marriage bill Thursday, 51-19, following an emotional debate. The bill now moves on to the state Senate, where pundits say it is too hard to predict whether it will pass. Still, Thursday’s vote was called “history in the making” by 70-year-old Ken Fish, who showed up early to watch the proceedings, as he and his partner of 25 years have waited a long time for the state to allow gay marriage.
