Rick Warren Returns to Pulpit

Pastor Rick Warren gave his first sermon Saturday since his son committed suicide in April, preaching about how his family had struggled to deal with their loss. Warren, the author of enormously successful The Purpose Driven Life and How to Get Through What You’re Going Through, walked on stage to a standing ovation with his wife Kay, with both appearing to be fighting back tears. Warren said that his 27-year-old son Matthew had suffered from mental illness, and had a “tender heart and tortured mind.” Warren said he would spend the next six weeks giving sermons about the different stages of grief and how his faith helped him after his son’s death.
