Authorities confirmed Sunday that Rodney King, the man whose videotaped 1991 beating by members of the Los Angeles Police Department helped spark riots in L.A., is dead. King, who was stopped by police for speeding and reckless driving before the beating, was found dead by his fiancée in a swimming pool. First responders initially tried to revive King after being called to his residence at about 5:25 am local time. “I obviously still think about that night,” King told The Daily Beast in April of this year. “I still have some pretty bad headaches from that beating. But I don’t let anger take over when the pain comes. It doesn’t help anything.” Police said there was no sign of foul play, according to Reuters. TMZ, which first broke the story, reports sources say King was drinking and smoking marijuana before his death.
