Mitt Romney may be hurting himself more than Rick Santorum with the latest ad attacking his opponent. An Ohio radio ad released this week digs at Santorum’s vote to confirm Sonia Sotomayor’s Supreme Court appointment. While Romney’s aim seems to be pointing out his competitor’s support of a liberal judge, Latino groups are taking the attack personally. “This unprovoked attack is another example of how Romney and the Republican Party are pushing the Latino vote to Obama,” said the president of the National Institute for Latino Policy. “They forget that Judge Sotomayor is an icon for the Latino community. It’s like attacking Martin Luther King or George Washington, for blacks and whites.” As the Republican candidates are well aware, the Latino vote is a powerful one they’ll want to secure if they hope to be elected.
