With the two parties’ conventions in the rearview mirror, pundits and advisers are gazing out at the lay of the electoral land, and senior Romney advisers tell Politico it’s not looking good. “Their map has many more routes to victory,” one top GOP official said. Advisers who would not speak on the record said they were “very worried,” according to Politico, while other officials said Romney is “patient” with the direction of the race. The worry may be called for: a cascade of new polls released over the weekend show that, though the race remains close, Obama is inching ahead of Romney after the Democratic Convention last week. Gallup’s daily tracking poll showed Obama with a 5-point advantage, and the GOP-slanted Rasmussen poll showed the president with a 4-point lead.
