Mitt Romney has regained his frontrunner status among the 2012 Republican hopefuls, according to a Fox News poll released Wednesday. But the biggest surprise was not Romney or even Rick Perry’s second-place finish, but who came in third: Businessman Herman Cain. After this month’s three debates, Perry slipped down to 19 percent—a drop of three percentage points since he entered the race in August. Cain came in just two percentage points below Perry at 17 percent, followed by Newt Gingrich with 11 percent and Ron Paul receiving 6 percent. But the most dramatic drop belonged to Michele Bachmann, who received only 3 percent backing—dropping from her all-time high of 15 percent in July. A majority of those polled, 63 percent, said they were happy with the current crop of Republican candidates, although President Obama still leads all the Republican hopefuls when all voters are polled.
