During a campaign visit to one of Florida’s biggest senior-citizen communities, 2012 presidential hopeful Mitt Romney warned his audience about Social Security becoming a “Perry scheme.” He was referencing a phrase from Rick Perry’s book Fed Up!, in which the Texas governor said he doesn’t want to alter the program for senior citizens but called Social Security a “Ponzi scheme” because funding problems would result in fewer benefits for younger Americans. “Social Security is not going to change for anyone in this room,” Romney assured the crowd of aging retirees.
