Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein discussed with Attorney General Jeff Sessions about replacing FBI Director James Comey before either had officially joined the Trump administration. According to The New York Times, Rosenstein indicated in a Friday memo briefing to members of Congress that he had long believed Comey should be replaced because of his public handling of the FBI probe of Hillary Clinton’s private email server. Additionally, Rosenstein revealed that he and Sessions had discussed the replacement idea this past winter, while he was still being considered for the administration position he eventually got.
