Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff began what she called “the century of women” by giving the first speech at the United Nations General Assembly today, becoming the first woman ever to do the honors. Rousseff’s address also included an appeal for the approval of Palestinian statehood. Despite the coverage the Palestinian bid has received in the lead-up to the assembly, it’s not the only issue on U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon’s mind. Climate change, women’s rights, health care, and food security are all slated to be discussed at the 66th annual meeting.
