Just how unpopular has Todd Akin become in the Republican Party? Now even über-conservative GOP maestro Karl Rove disowned him—at least in an off-color joke. At a fundraiser on the final morning of the convention, Rove joked: “We should sink Todd Akin. If he’s found mysteriously murdered, don’t look for my whereabouts!” The jibe came during a speech in which Rove outlined what he believes his party should do to win crucial Senate and House races. Akin has been the object of furor since he made comments about “legitimate rape” earlier this month.
