Well, there he goes again.
Rush Limbaugh, the conservative talk show host went on a bizarre, sexist rant against R&B diva Beyoncé on his talk show Wednesday, claiming she’s a hypocrite because her new single, “Bow Down/I Been On,” is a plea for women to be subservient to their husbands.
According to Limbaugh, during her days in the girl-group Destiny’s Child, Beyoncé’s songs aimed to “inspire young women and not to take any grief from men,” but now, she’s “done a 180” with “Bow Down/I Been On.”
“Beyoncé's now saying, go ahead and put up with it,” said Limbaugh. “The advice to these women, go ahead, and put up with it. Put up with it now. Bow down, bitches. Because why? She got married. She married a rich guy. She now understands. She now understands it’s worth it to bow down, so she’s passing on this advice.”
He also aimed his ire at the name of Beyoncé’s world tour, dubbed “The Mrs. Carter World Show Tour Starring Beyoncé”—in honor of her husband, rapper Jay-Z (a.k.a. Sean Carter).
“Beyoncé, now having been married, having been impregnated and giving birth to Blue Ivy, she’s going out on a new tour, and they may as well call it the ‘Bow Down Bitch’ tour… She’s even calling herself ‘Mrs. Carter’ on the tour… she has shelved Beyoncé.”
But Limbaugh, as is his wont, completely misinterpreted the lyrics to the song, which is really about silencing all her haters, as well as the pop diva asserting her Queen B status over young pop divas attempting to usurp her power—call it her “Watch the Throne.”
“I know when you were young girls / You dreamt of being in my world,” she sings. “Don’t forget it, don’t forge tit / Respect that / Bow down, bitches.”
And later in the song, she asserts her autonomy concerning her marriage to Jay-Z, singing, “I took some time to live my life / But don’t think I’m just his little wife.”
Everyone remembers Limbaugh’s disgusting remarks last year against Georgetown student Sandra Fluke, labeling her a “slut” and “prostitute—among other things—for speaking out against contraceptive mandates for women. The comments made a star out of Fluke, while Limbaugh lost close to 100 sponsors for his show, according to various reports.
But Limbaugh, the four-time married Viagra smuggler, has a long history of sexist rants against women. Here are some of the worst:
“Given the National Organization for Women’s membership and proclivities, it’s no wonder that people now view the NOW gang as being obsessed with only two issues: abortion rights and lesbian rights. I prefer to call the most obnoxious feminists what they really are: feminazis. The term describes any female who is intolerant of any point of view that challenges militant feminism. I often use it to describe women who are obsessed with perpetuating a modern-day holocaust: abortion.
A feminazi is a woman to whom the most important thing in life is seeing to it that as many abortions as possible are performed. Their unspoken reasoning is quite simple. Abortion is the single greatest avenue for militant women to exercise their quest for power and advance their belief that men aren’t necessary. Nothing matter but me, says the feminazi; the is an unviable tissue mass. Feminazis have adopted abortion as a kind of sacrament for their religion/politics of alienation and bitterness.” – Limbaugh, ‘92
“Socks is the White House cat. But did you know there is also a White House dog?” – Limbaugh, holding up a picture of a 13-year-old Chelsea Clinton, in ‘93
“I think this reason why girls don’t do well on multiple choice tests goes all the way back to the Bible, all the way back to Genesis, Adam and Eve. God said, ‘All right, Eve, multiple choice or multiple orgasms, what’s it going to be?’ We all know what was chosen.” – Limbaugh, ‘94
“Women should not be allowed on juries where the accused is a stud.” – Limbaugh, ‘94
“They’re out there protesting what they actually wish would happen to them sometimes.” – Limbaugh on women protesting against sexual harassment, ‘04
“We’re not sexists, we’re chauvinists — we’re male chauvinist pigs, and we’re happy to be because we think that’s what men were destined to be. We think that’s what women want.” – Limbaugh, ‘04
“Feminism was established so as to allow unattractive women access to the mainstream of society.” – Limbaugh, ‘05
“My cat comes to me when she wants to be fed. I have learned this. I accept it for what it is. Many people in my position would think my cat's coming to me because she loves me. Well, she likes me, and she is attached, but she comes to me when she wants to be fed. And after I feed her...she's off to wherever she wants to be in the house, until the next time she gets hungry. She's smart enough to know she can't feed herself. She's actually a very smart cat. She gets loved. She gets adoration. She gets petted. She gets fed. And she doesn't have to do anything for it, which is why I say this cat's taught me more about women, than anything my whole life.” – Limbaugh on what cat ownership taught him about women, ‘06
“He’s trying to figure out how he can get involved in the deal down there at Duke where the lacrosse team… supposedly, you know, raped, some, uh, hos.” – Limbaugh, ‘06
“You have to understand the mindset of a lot of these feminists and women... these women have paid their dues. They've been married two or three times; they've had two or three abortions; they've done everything that feminism can ask them to do.” – Limbaugh on why women support Hillary Clinton, ‘08
“I want some of these women to start telling me what it is I must do to close the gender gap or, if not, what it is I must do to close the gender gap, what it is I've done that has caused the gender gap; assuming the gender gap is true and that the poll is true ... I own the men, and what must I do now to own women?” – Limbaugh on why less than 40 percent of women had a favorable opinion of him, ‘09
“I’m a huge supporter of women. What I’m not is a supporter of liberalism. Feminism is what I oppose. Feminism has led women astray. I love the women’s movement — especially when walking behind it.” – Limbaugh, ‘10
“[T]he nags… the national association of gals, that’s our pet name for the NOW gang… the nags are a bunch of whores to liberalism.” – Limbaugh, ‘10
“Colleges have been chickified. Men aren't showing up in as many numbers as they used to...This is what we have done to boys and men. The feminists / feminazis have been working for years to this end: advance women by diminishing men.” – Limbaugh, ‘10
“I wonder: Why is it that Anthony Weiner turns out to be the kind of guy he is? How does that happen?... What kinda women has Anthony Weiner been around his whole life? He has been around a bunch of these kinds of women who have been attacking testosterone, who have been attacking traditional male roles.” – Limbaugh, ‘11
“I'll tell you, you women. Why don't you just make it official, put on some burkas and I'll guaran-damn-tee you nobody'll touch you. You put on a burka, and everybody'll leave you alone if that's what you want.” – Limbaugh on the Herman Cain sexual harassment case, ‘11
“Female politicians get a pass on every aspect of their appearance. You would never have stories about how some female politican's fat... There are plenty of lard-ass women in politics, and they get a total pass on it.” – Limbaugh, ‘11
“It doesn’t look like Michelle Obama follows her own nutritionary dietary advice. And then we hear that she’s out eating ribs at 1500 calories a serving with 141 grams of fat … No, I’m trying to say that our first lady does not project the image of women that you might see on the cover of the Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue or of a woman Alex Rodriguez might date every six months or what have you.” – Limbaugh, ‘11
“What is it with all of these young, single white women? Overeducated- doesn’t mean intelligent.” – Limbaugh, ‘12
“So Ms. Fluke, and the rest of you Feminazis, here’s the deal. If we are going to pay for your contraceptives, and thus pay for you to have sex, we want something for it. We want you post the videos online so we can all watch.” – Limbaugh, ‘12
“The definition of a misogynist is a man who hates women almost as much as women hate women. That's what a misogynist is. Did you know that... A misogynist is a guy who hates women almost as much as women hate women.” – Limbaugh, ‘12
