Russia denied reports that one of its submarines had been involved in any unscrupulous activities off the coast of Sweden. Since Friday, the Swedish military has been searching the waters off Stockholm for what is officially described as “foreign underwater activity.” While Sweden has officially denied it is looking for a submarine, intelligence briefings reported by local newspapers indicate that officials intercepted distress signals from a Russian submarine in waters off its coast. Russia’s foreign minister flatly rejected the allegations. “There has been no irregular situation, let alone emergency situation, involving Russian navy vessels,” said a Russian defense ministry spokesman, who added all navy submarines were “performing tasks... according to plan.”
