Russia Seizes Radioactive Luggage

SCARY

En route to Iran.

Russian authorities seized radioactive metal from the luggage of an Iranian passenger headed to Iran, after the radioactive sodium isotopes set off security's radiation-control alarm. Upon opening the suitcase, officials found 18 metal objects that contained radiation levels 20 times higher than normal. Though he has not yet been identified, the passenger was detained at customs and has been handed over to authorities, who have already launched a formal investigation. Moscow insists it has been helping Tehran develop its peaceful nuclear program and recently finished building the country's first nuclear power plant. But other countries like Israel and the U.S. are concerned Iran is developing nuclear weapons at the plant.
