Russian Troops Dying in ‘Large Numbers’

NATO Deputy Secretary-General Alexander Vershbow said Thursday that “large numbers” of Russian troops are dying while fighting alongside pro-Russian rebels in eastern Ukraine. Vershbow told a Latvian conference that the conflict is beginning to lose support in Russia, “especially as Russian leaders are less and less able to conceal the fact that Russian soldiers are fighting—and dying—in large numbers.” Moscow, meanwhile, denies that any of its troops are in east Ukraine.
