S. Dakota OKs Anti-Trans Bathroom Bill

The South Dakota state senate passed a bill Tuesday seeking to ban transgender students from using school bathrooms and locker rooms based on their gender identity. HB 1008, which was approved by the state house last week, was passed by a 20-15 vote and heads to Republican Gov. Dennis Daugaard’s desk. The measure states that school restrooms, locker rooms, and public showers designated for student use and accessible to multiple students should be used by students of the same biological sex. If the governor signs the measure, South Dakota will become the first state to enact such a law.
