The New Orleans Saints rewarded its players using a bounty system, according to the National Football League. The NFL has been investigating the team and disclosed Friday that more than 20 players and an assistant coach were involved in a system that compensated players with payments for injuring members of opposing teams over the past three seasons. League commissioner Roger Goodell said the bounties “involved not just payments for ‘performance,’ but also for injuring opposing players.” Goodell addressed continued concerns about the safety of one of America’s most popular sports. “We have made significant progress in changing the culture with respect to player safety, and we are not going to relent,” Goodell said.
