French first lady Carla Bruni gave birth to a daughter Wednesday—the first child born to a sitting French president. Nicolas Sarkozy, however, was unable to attend his daughter’s birth, as he was in Germany for talks on the euro-zone crisis. He was at his wife’s bedside until just a few hours before the child arrived; he has since returned to be with his wife and new daughter. The child’s name has not been announced; rumors suggest she’ll be named Dahlia.
