Sarko’s still got his work cut out for him with the clock running out on the French incumbent. Polls heading into the final day of campaigning Friday showed that challenger Francois Hollande had a healthy 6 point lead on Nicolas Sarkozy. If the polls are accurate, Sarkozy may be the first French president to fail to win a second term since 1981. Right-wing politician Marine Le Pen, whose supporters Sarkozy hoped to attract as the final election drew closer, has said that she will support neither Sarkozy nor Hollande and told reporters Thursday that the incumbent was “beaten a long time ago.”
