Sheima Jastaniah will not be lashed for breaking Saudi Arabia’s female driving ban after the country’s leader, King Abdullah, intervened to overturn her sentence. Originally sentenced to at least 10 lashings, Sheima was the first woman to face legal punishment for breaking the ban. The sentence came just one day after King Abdullah announced plans to extend voting rights to women in 2015.
