A bunch of lab mice at Harvard are enjoying unnaturally long lives after a recent study found scientists' anti-aging therapy dramatically effective. The study, published in the journal Nature, showed weak, feeble mice becoming strong and healthy again after scientists’ treatments rejuvenated their organs. "What we saw in these animals was not a slowing down or stabilization of the aging process. We saw a dramatic reversal–and that was unexpected," said the leader of the study. The scientists worked to reduce “telomere shortening,” the natural process by which a tiny cap on a cell’s DNA gradually becomes shorter, contributing to aging. Giving the mice an enzyme slowed the shortening and actually restored their bodies to their younger, healthier state.
