Irish actress Maureen O’Hara, dubbed the “Queen of Technicolor” for the way her red hair and green eyes popped off the screen in films of the 1940s and ‘50s, passed away Saturday at her home in Boise, Idaho. She was 95. O’Hara’s first Hollywood film was The Hunchback of Notre Dame (1939) in which she played Esmeralda. She also memorably starred in the 1947 film Miracle on 34th Street and 1952’s The Quiet Man opposite John Wayne, her co-star in four other movies. “I’ve had many friends, and I prefer the company of men, except for Maureen O’Hara,” Wayne once said. “She is a great guy.”
