Senate to Move Toward Debt Vote

Now that President Obama has struck a handshake deal with leaders of both parties, the action turns to Congress. In the Senate, passage of the compromise debt deal looks assured, and the chamber is expected to vote on the measure on Monday. Just in case, though, Vice President Joe Biden will drop by the floor to pitch the deal to anyone still on the fence. On the House side, though, passage isn’t a sure thing yet. Liberal Democrats, led by Arizona's Raul Grijalva, have sworn not to support it, and conservative Republicans haven’t yet fallen in line on the deal, which pushes most tough decisions down the road and puts them in the hands of a special joint committee.
