Seven people were killed Monday night in Egypt in clashes between security forces and supporters of ousted President Mohamed Morsi. State media said 261 people were injured in the riots as police reportedly used tear gas and even hurled rocks to keep the protesters back. The riot began Monday night as protesters blocked the 6 October Bridge, one of the city’s main thoroughfares. The crowds gathered as a senior U.S. envoy, William Burns, visited Egypt and said the country had been given a “second chance on democracy.” Burns met with Egypt’s interim president, Adly Mansour, and Prime Minister Hazem al-Beblaw, as well as Gen. Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, who oversaw Morsi’s ouster.
