An accident on the Georgia set of MGM Studios’ heist film The Pickup—starring Eddie Murphy, Pete Davidson, and Keke Palmer—injured “several” crew members on Tuesday, the studio announced. An anonymous source familiar with what happened told the Associated Press the accident was a car crash that involved a truck and car during filming. The wire service reported a truck “locked up” and crashed unexpectedly into the car. Of the hurt crew members, two people were hospitalized with injuries that ranged from bruises to broken bones, but both are expected to make a full recovery. “It was a completely freak accident,” the AP source said. “It wasn’t even a complicated or dangerous stunt.” MGM released few details on what happened, but in a statement to the AP, a spokesperson said “all safety precautions were reviewed prior to and monitored during the shoot.” The statement added: “Unfortunately, the sequence did not go as planned and several members of the crew were injured as a result. We are still in the process of gathering facts on what happened and why, but first and foremost our thoughts are with those who are recovering.” The AP reported that Murphy, Davidson, and Palmer weren’t on the set during the crash. The scene was being filmed just outside Atlanta, where filming has taken place since Feb. 20. The Pickup does not yet have a release date, but the production is not expected to be delayed by Tuesday’s incident.
